PRESS RELEASE

Prof. Kiran Walia, Health & Family Welfare Minister Delhi Govt inaugurated a Property Tax Collection Camp on 13th Jun 2009 at St. Mary’s School, Safdarjung Enclave.  Wing Cdr Mathew, Retd. & Chairman of St. Mary’s School Safdarjung Enclave welcomed Prof. Kiran Walia by presenting her a bouquet. Shri Pankaj Agarwal thanked Wg Cdr Mathew for his help & support in organiging social activities for the residents at the school.

About 465 property owners from Safdarjung Enclave and its adjoining areas visited this camp & deposited tax amounting to about Rs 15.90 Lakhs. Tax was collected by MCD and Axis Bank officials by issuing manual & electronic receipt respectively. Tax paying by electronic media proved advantageous for many since calculations were automatic & they got excess payments made already adjusted in this year’s tax amount. Many residents also visited camp for guidance & clarifications. Volunteers from Efforts Group helped residents in guiding & filing their return forms & for their tax related queries. Tax payments only by cheques were accepted at the camp.

Sr Citizen Tax Payers were very happy & expressed satisfaction for organising such a camp which has immensely helped them in submitting tax with out hassles near their houses.

Mobile Phone Company: Customers say Poor Service

From: Shiv Lal Watwani
Dated: 24 March 08,15-40Hrs
Dear Sir/Madam,

I bought  a Prepaid mobile connection   ( Phone No. 9958046738 ) with a FM  Mobile set  of Heier about 4-5 months back. On Box supplied to me, boldly reads/says that Prepaid connection has validity of Two years & Customer will be given FREE Airtel to Airtel talk time of Rs1699/- for two years. No other terms & conditions  which i narrate below are listed on the Box.

I feel hardly I used this  FREE Airtel to Airtel service for about Rs100/- to  Rs 150/-   & about a fortnight back the balance was still reading in this category for about Rs300/- at my credit & all of a sudden this also vanished. I was expecting more talktime balance from Rs1699/- will be shortly added but its going to be a fortnight & not a Penny has been added by Airtel from their promised/mentioned Rs 1699/- Package.

Customer service is another Useless service of Airtel. Despite requesting for talkking to Customer service officer, The Helpline will pretend that my request for Customer Service has not been understood. I think more than a Dozen time I hv  dialled Customer Service but same fate.

Seems airtel feels that its easy way to make bucks by cheating customer. I feel ultimately due to this poor Service & not honouring the promised things, Airtel will loose Customer  business/network.

While I was at the shop from where I bought the connection &  Mobile set box, another customer by name Dr J L Azad, aged about 85 years also came complaining that without his using the Mobile phone number 9971383973, balance is getting reduced daily.

Today at that shop, ultimately yr customer service number 121 worked  & both of us could talk to Customer Service officer but his reply was that system is down & he can not confirm to the requested answers. Our requesting him to note down our numbers & confirm the reasons, he even did not take this request. Yr this service also need improvements.

On my phone I keep on receiving unwanted SMS & promotional phone calls throughout day from Airtel & its franchisees & disturbing we old Sr citizen. Such SMS/Phone calls be stopped immediately from number.

You can well understand the plight of Customer. Put yourself  in the position/shoes  of a Customer & tell me what will be yr reaction.

Please reply to the my & Dr Azad’s problems on my mail Id or phone numbers  Immediately.

If nothing satisfactory is heard in 48 hours, I will forward my complaint to TRAI, Ministry of Telecommunication, My E-mail Id network of 500 friends/ relatives, Newspapers/Press, legal agencies etc to apprise them how AIRTEL is cheating  & harassing its customers.

Regards.

Distcoms, DERC, Governement Vs Citizen

IT TOOK five years and repeated reminders from the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) to wake up the state government about providing free legal help to consumers in cases against private power distribution companies.

The Delhi government has finally agreed to provide consumer advocates to protect the interests of the Capital’s citizens in their litigation against distribution companies (Distcoms). The DERC sent repeated reminders to the state government over the past year, asking it “to address the issue of absence of proper representa- tion of consumers’ interest before different forums”.

“Due to power distribution privatisation, substantial litigation has emerged at all levels… Whereas parties to disputes like the Distcoms etc, are represented by top legal experts, there is no mechanism to ensure effective representation of consumer interests”, the DERC said in a letter to the government The state government says though the DERC sent letters, it was unable to spell out how this system could be implemented.

”The consumer advocates system will be under the state government’s Power Grievance Cell, set up earlier this year and headed by Justice R.C. Chopra, a retired judge of the Delhi High Court,” said Delhi Chief Secretary Rakesh Mehta.

“Consumers will be provid- ed with advocates free of cost to fight their cases and protect their interests,” the chief secretary said.

The government is confident it will be able to set up the office of consumer advocates before the DERC begins its hearings on the Aggregate Revenue Requirement (ARR) petitions of the three distribution companies, seeking power tariff hikes later this month.

However, a NGO working in the power sector has dismissed the government plan as an eye-wash. “The Special Powers Courts announced by the state government have not even been operationalised so far,” said Chetna President Anil Sood said.

     POWERLESS?

Procedure for consumers grievance redressal is not people friendly a Consumers have to first go to the Distcoms with their complaints.

The next stop is District and State Consumer Forums a NGOs say common people do not have time and resources to approach one court after the other

RWAs and Elections

RWAs and ElectionsThe dismal show by representatives of RWAs in Delhi during the last municipal elections in April 07 should prove to be warning to members of RWAs to think twice before taking such a step again.
