Launching of ‘Listening Post’ within a short span – just on completion of one month after taking the oath as 19th Lt. Governor of Delhi – is a most laudable step to solve the many problems of citizens and simultaneously obtain information on the ground. The facility would certainly be instrumental in improving the administration by bringing in transparency and accountability at all levels.
Although in the very first week of its launch, nearly 1500 calls are stated to have been registered by the ‘Listening Post’ yet we feel that more people would have come forward in getting their grievances registered had there been provision for keeping their identities confidential. People are very keen to draw attention to deficiencies in Civic Services, but abstain from reporting against the issues of encroachment on Government land, violation of Building By-Laws, etc.
Factors that deter any citizen from approaching any government agency for redressal and CAPRG recommendation have been sent to the Lieut Governor of Delhi by Committe for Social Justice.
